Hammond B3 Organ Serial Numbers

Hammond B3 Organ Serial Numbers

List of Hammond organs Aeolian Hammond BA player organ with. Model Name / Number Years produced Description. New B-3: 2003–present. Hi all, I am new to the forum and to the organ world. Piano player by training. I have a chance to pick up a B3 with L-22 cabinet form a friend. It is basically a list of dates and serial numbers for various Hammond and Leslie models. The Hammond/Leslie age determination list was initially compiled?

Okay, i tried to research this a little, but didn't find what i was looking for. I searched the forum a bit, and checked the hammond/leslie FAQ. Gt Casa Alarm 2200 Manuale Edu.

I'm wondering where the serial number is located on a B3. Would it be only on the nameplate? Heimdall One Click Unbrick Download. Because on the chop i have, i believe the nameplate has been removed, since the organ is in a different case. There is a nameplate from the 'Harrington Organ Company' that has some pretty official looking numbers, i'm wondering if maybe the serial number is one of those?

Can anyone tell me how many letters/numbers are generally in the serial number? There are several other markings on the inside of the thing as well. I'm trying to see if any of them are the serial number. The official Hammond organ serial number list by owners is kept up by my friend Rick Prevallet at Harvey Olsen and the Hammond organ FAQ I believe has a range of serial numbers possible for each organ series. They were overlapping between the B-3/C-3/A-1xx series (1956-1975) I think. I would be surprised if the number on the other plate contains the original Hammond serial number, but it could.

Probably more interesting would be its year of production, which could be handwritten on the case or parts, and can be determined approximately by the date code of parts (caps or tubes). Part of the serial number database also shows how to determine date codes based on components. It can also be determined by things like how the drawbars are made and whether or not the vibrato knob is fluted. I also forgot to point out that for over 40 years that what looks to be a B-3 may not have started out its life as one. Thru info from Hamtech, it has been pointed out that companies or techs have transferred C-3 or A-100 guts into old BC/B-2 cases, and that is why you might not find the original serial number plate (it would have belonged to the BC/B-2 and would misdate the item). Plus techs would take parts from one of the three series and 'upgrade' a -2 series. We have puzzled over this issue for many years on Hamtech as to whether a serial number really matters or not, if you have a great playing instrument?

As they say, the best B-3/C-3 is usually a A-100. In fact, Keith Emerson's 'C-3' is actually a A-100. Got that info directly from Al Goff. This is certainly true of Ed Harrington (the Harrington of 'Harrington Organ Company'), who I presume did your chop job. When Ed was selling Hammond chops in the late 60s and 70s it was very common for him to start with BV guts and add percussion. I never found that he misrepresented the result, but he did tend to refer to it cryptically as a 'BV-3' and I'm sure a lot of players didn't know the difference.

In the 60s and 70s Ed's shop was on West Montrose (north side of Chicago) just off the Kennedy to the east. Don't recall the exact address, but it would have been about 4400 W Montrose. Ed was not an authorized Hammond dealer (that was Lyon & Healy) but he always had lots (dozens!) of used Hammonds and Leslies(!) (Lyon & Healy couldn't/wouldn't sell Leslies at that time). He specialized in chops and would customize whatever you wanted.

I was one of his many satisfied customers, and I can tell you that going into his shop was 'kid in a toy store' good. I was out of the Chicago area and lost touch with Ed in the 70s and don't know what ever happened to him.

The shop is long gone, I presume for decades. I too have looked for information on Ed, but I haven't found anything. There surely are organ techs or Lyon & Healy alumni in the Chicago area that know more of Ed's story than me. Anybody out there? #1272623 - 04/05/06 06:30 PM Re: B3 Serial number Grand Poobah of the Trebuchet 10k Club Registered: 10/26/03 Posts: 15683.
