If it is an import (Korean, Japanese or Chinese) guitar that was built before 07 -08, your serial number will mean essentially nothing. Since that time, most of the overseas factories are using serial numbers that show the year of manufacture as the first two digits - usually following one or two letters. The letters designate the factory. US - Un Sung Korea Y - Yoojin China E - World Korea If it is a USA Dean, the serial number will be stamped into the back of the headstock in most cases.

The first two digits denote the year. There was a period of time in the '90s when serial numbers were stamped into the last fret space on the fingerboard. That is from: so your serial number will read (for example) US11345869.so that would mean made in Korea at the Un Sung plant in 2011 number 3345869.
